Old Cedar

Old Cedar

This is my favorite tree in all of Stone Mountain Park. I originally thought it was dying by its appearance. A plant app on my phone told me different, that it was a healthy Red Cedar.

Red cedars exhibit remarkable resilience in harsh environments. They form symbiotic bonds with fungi, which improves their ability to absorb nutrients.

They hold significant cultural importance to various Native American tribes.

It also helps stabilize nearby slopes and reduce erosion through its expansive root system. What a tree!
