Quarry Walk

This is the area where the largest quarry operation took place. It was advertised as “the largest deposit of merchandisable granite in the world!”
The quality of Stone Mountain granite is world-renowned and has been used in too many significant locations to name here (the Tokyo Imperial Hotel and the locks of the Panama Canal to name some).
Even during the early stages of quarry operations, small groups of protesters pleaded against the project. They believed the operators were mutilating and defacing the integrity of the mountain. Campaigns were started to try and place the mountain under state protection.
I was rushing to take this picture as the cloud patterns were changing rapidly. I didn’t notice the lady walking into the frame until I started editing.
