Trail of Tears

Trail of Tears

Although this is a metaphorical image, I can envision this as a path that more than 60,000 Indigenous Americans walked during their forced removal.

Archaeological excavation of Stone Mountain Creek (which would later be renamed “Stone Mountain Lake”) uncovered artifacts of the archaic period (10,000 – 8,000 BCE) and Woodland Period (1000 – 900 BCE).

These early inhabitants would have been distant relatives of the Muskogee Creek tribe.
